RUSNANO’s Portfolio Company, Akrilan, Captures Quarter of Water Based Polymer Dispersions Market in Russia
Akrilan, RUSNANO’s portfolio company and one of the largest manufacturers of water based polymer dispersions, reports its preliminary results for 2018. Sales volumes of Akrilan’s acrylic and acrylic/styrene dispersions increased by 11.7% to 30,000 tons in 2018, in comparison to the previous year. The company also consolidated its status as leader of the paint and varnish market by growing its sales in this sector by 18%, according to raw data.
For the first time, Akrilan became one of the key players in the acrylic and acrylic/styrene dispersion market in Russia, due to its increased sales volumes. The company’s share accounted for 24% of the market, among Russian manufacturers, and 20% of the entire market, with imports taken into account.
Akrilan’s turnover reached RUB 2 bln, showing a 20% increase in comparison to revenues in 2017. The EBITDA measure for the same period rose by 13% to RUB 221.5 mln.
The Managing Director of the Investment Division at RUSNANO Management Company LLC, Sergey Vakhterov, said “In 2019, cheaper latex will remain in demand and still dominate the local market. In such an environment, Akrilan will continue to pursue a sales strategy, which we embarked on this year, with its emphasis on increasing sales volumes of its universal brand of binders, whose potential is yet to be realized; on developing premium quality dispersions for wooden floors and furniture to substitute imported equivalents, and also on promoting products with marked properties, for instance, for production of silicate mineral paints, for elastic materials and sealants, and for fire proof paints and metal coats. As far as exports are concerned, the focus should be on Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) nations.
As for its adhesive materials, Akrilan intends to maintain its current position in 2019, in terms of sales volumes, and to also develop product lines of flooring adhesives, protective films and structural adhesives. With regards to nonwoven materials, the plan for 2019 is to raise sales volumes by attracting new partners.”
