At that time, the first batch consisting of 20,000 highly sensitive molecular diagnostic tests for diagnosing COVID-19, manufactured by the TestGene company of the Ulyanovsk nanocenter ULNANOTECH, which is part of the investment networkof the Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs (FIEP of RUSNANO Group), arrived in the Republic of Dagestan. The delivery was made in cooperation with the Sozidaniye charity foundation and All-Russia People’s Front. The first batch of TestGene diagnostic kits was purchased using over RUB 10 mln in funds, collected by staff at RUSNANO Group in the shortest time possible. Anatoly Chubais and Nyuta Federmesser personally handed over the test kits to medical workers of the republic’s diagnostic center in Makhachkala, where the PCR laboratory is located.

RUSNANO plans to send 50,000 in-house manufactured test kits in total, which have been purchased using funds allocated by the company to charity work and collected from RUSNANO employees.

Chairman of the Executive Board of RUSNANO Management Company Anatoly Chubais said “Dagestan is experiencing one of the worst outbreaks of COVID-19 in Russia. Hence, RUSNANO decided to send a batch of highly sensitive tests to the republic, which had been swiftly designed and manufactured on a large scale by our company TestGene, based in Ulyanovsk. A standard PCR laboratory can simultaneously analyze 96 samples in two hours’ time using these tests kits. I’m grateful to employees of RUSNANO Group for donating their own money to purchase the first batch of kits for the Republic of Dagestan. We hope that our aid package will help speed up testing for COVID-19 and slow down the spread of the virus.”

Nyuta Federmesser, the creative force behind ONF’s “Region of Care Project” and founder of Hospice Charity Fund Vera, said “Dagestan is one of our 26 regions of care. But for me it’s not simply one of many but, in fact, the one and only. When you become familiar with Dagestan, in my opinion, you either fall in love with it forever or view it as yet another hospitable sunny region in the Caucasus. For me, it seems it was love at first sight. Therefore, I simply cannot remain on the sidelines while Dagestan is in trouble. I kept thinking about all the special-needs children at orphanage Zabota (and hoping that none of them would die), and about employees and the elderly under observation at psychiatric care homes in Buynaksk and Kazanishche. I was also wondering how the still underdeveloped palliative care facilities were managing in mountain villages where the Coronavirus is wreaking havoc right now. I simply knew that as soon as I got better I’d go to Makhachkala straight away. We brought several thousand PPE (personal protective equipment) items, supplied by ONF projects #WeAreTogether and Region of Care. We were also fortunate to have reached an agreement with RUSNANO and the Sozidaniye (Compassion) charity foundation, which meant thousands of test kits that will help medical workers diagnose COVID-19 and stop the outbreak, arrived with us.”

Dagestan has reported some of the highest numbers of cases of Coronavirus disease in the Russian Federation. On May 28, the republic was in 6th place, based on COVID-19 infections, after Moscow, Moscow Region, Saint Petersburg, and Nizhny Novgorod as well as Sverdlovsk Regions.
