NCC Starts Exporting Composite Cases for Pipelines

11 September 2020

The Nanotechnology Center of Composites (NCC), as part of the investment network of the RUSNANO’S Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs, has started exporting composite pipeline protective cases. The first buyer was the Republic of Belarus.

With the use of the NCC cases, MogilevOblGaz carried out work to protect the pipes passing through the reclamation channel in the town of Gorodets in the Mogilev Region.

“The FT-300 composite protective case was used for the work. Taking into account the design that facilitates the installation, and the absence of the need to use heavy equipment, the installation was completed in a short time,” said the Head of the NCC Sales Department Eugeny Rafailov.

The composite case was developed by NCC and mass-produced in 2018. It can be used to protect gas pipelines and oil pipelines in places of increased loads: when passing under roads and railways, from aggressive corrosion impact. Functionally, it has completely replaced traditional metal cases. However, it has several advantages including higher strength, interchangeability of parts, protection against stray currents, and the possibility to compactly place parts of the case during transportation. When installing a composite case, there is no welding work, the case does not require maintenance and special measures to protect against corrosion.

The weight of the composite protection case for gas and oil pipelines is 4 times lower than that of metal ones; thus, during installation, it is unnecessary to use heavy equipment.

The Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs was established in 2010 in accordance with Federal Law No. 211-FZ “On reorganization of the Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies.” The Fund aims to develop the innovative infrastructure in the sphere of nanotechnology and implement the educational and infrastructure programs already started by RUSNANO.

The supreme collegial management body of the Fund is the Supervisory Board. Under the Fund’s Charter, the competence of the Supervisory Council, in particular, includes the issues of determining the priority directions of the Fund’s activity, as well as its strategy and budget. The Chairman of the Fund’s Executive Board, the collegial management body, is the Chairman of the Board of Management Company RUSNANO LLC Sergey Kulikov.
