Four RUSNANO Group Companies Have Won the Priority 2.0 Awards

25 November 2020

The winners of the Priority 2.0 National Award in the field of effective use of advanced technologies were announced at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation in Moscow on November 24, 2020. Four RUSNANO Group companies were among the winners.

In the Electronics and Robotics category, the award went to the Russian Center for Flexible Electronics for the Russia’s first industrial production of microelectronic components based on thin-film plastic electronics technology. The center started its operation in March 2020 and has become the largest project implemented by the  TechnoSpark Group of Companies (part of the investment network of the RUSNANO’s Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs) with the support of the Moscow government. The company performs prototyping and small-scale production of the key components for a wide range of devices—TFT-matrix (thin-film transistor matrix) for displays (e-paper, LCD screens, and OLED displays), sensors (biometric sensors, X-ray detectors, etc.), as well as integrated chips for radio frequency tags and sensors on an industrial scale. The technology for manufacturing flexible organic TFT-matrices on a plastic substrate, developed by the FlexEnable laboratory (UK), has been transferred to the new production facility and scaled up. In the future, the transfer of the technology for the production of flexible metal oxide (or IGZO, Indium Galium Zink Oxide) TFT-matrices and integrated circuits from the R&D centers of IMEC (Belgium) and Holst Centre (Netherlands) to Russia will be completed.

“The Russian Center for Flexible Electronics offers domestic companies access to breakthrough technology and at the same time participates in the formation of a new global market—thin-film plastic electronics where Russia can take the leading position within 3-5 years and cooperate with leading European companies. A cluster of small and medium-sized companies working on new products in the niches of flexible plastic sensors and disposable plastic tags has already started to form in our country, and our contract manufacturing allows for the development and scaling,” said Aleksey Gostomelsky, Director General of the Russian Center for Flexible Electronics, after the award presentation.

“Cool project. This case is the pride of every Russian,” said Vadim Kulikov, Director of the International Fund for Technological Development, Chairman of the Expert Council of the Prioritet Award, when presenting the award. In early November, as part of an expert tour, he visited the production site of the Russian Center for Flexible Electronics in Troitsk and now advises everyone to get acquainted with this unique project.

Geosplit LLC (portfolio company of the Rusnano Sistema Fund) received the award in the Oil and Gas Industry category for the development of technologies for creating digital models of hydrocarbon fields and underground storage facilities based on reservoir monitoring using quantum markers. The innovative technology brings a new level of digitalization of oil and gas production, providing companies with operational and accurate quantitative data on the operation of wells. Moreover, these data can be obtained without additional labor- and resource-consuming downhole operations.

“It’s nice that the organizers of the award have already recognized our contribution to the cutting-edge technology. However, Geosplit has ambitious development plans. Our developments are especially in demand now, when low hydrocarbon prices dictate the need to improve the economic efficiency of production. We see further development of our company in the direction of digitalization, creation of digital twin fields, and entering foreign markets. We’ve made the first steps, but in the next few years we plan to significantly develop the business in both directions,” said Aleksander Katashov, Director General of Geosplit.

In the Overcoming nomination, the TestGen company from the ULNANOTECH Ulyanovsk Nanocenter was awarded for its high-precision CoV-2-Test genetic test system designed to detect the COVID-19 coronavirus infection. The company specializes in the production of genetic tests in cardiology, oncology, and urology. However, with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, it quickly responded to public demand and developed and began mass production of its test, which can be handled by standard PCR laboratories.

“Developing a kit for diagnosing the RNA coronavirus, we aimed to create a high-quality product with a high degree of reliability and highly productive enzymes that can detect infection while still in the incubation period,” said Andrey Toropovsky, TestGen CEO. “The task was accomplished, and laboratories received an effective and easy-to-use test system, but most importantly, we contributed to the struggle of the professional medical community worldwide against the pandemic. We supplied large volumes of tests as charitable and humanitarian aid, helping the regions of Russia and other countries. We are pleased that our work is primarily appreciated in our own country. As a continuation of this development, we created the first domestic express test for the diagnosis of the coronavirus antigen, which can be used not only in professional laboratories as a valid PCR test, but also within 15 minutes to conduct rapid screening in hospitals, airports, and mass gathering places. We are already beginning to prepare the documentation for the registration certificate.”

NANOLEK LLC (a portfolio company of RUSNANO in 2011-2019) received an award in the Production Localization category for the HANTERAZA® drug for the treatment of the rare genetic disease—Hunter syndrome. “The work of our team evidences that our country is capable of producing complex innovative drugs that meet all international standards. Thank you for the recognition of our team. We, in turn, will continue to work for the development of Russian pharmaceuticals, as well as to draw attention to the problem of orphan diseases,” assured Elena Stukun, Deputy General Sales Director of NANOLEC.

The winners of this year’s prize were 34 companies from various sectors of the Russian economy, whose achievements had been recognized as the best in the development, implementation, and promotion of advanced domestic technologies in all areas of industry and IT.

“In 2020, the award reached a new stage: responding to the today’s challenges, the task of overcoming the negative trends associated with the pandemic and the unfavorable global economic situation, it was awarded ‘for the effective use of advanced technologies’. After all, it is quite obvious that it is the technological re-equipment of our economy that is extremely important for achieving the national development goals of the country. I congratulate the award winners on their deserved victory and wish all companies and enterprises that took part in the contest success on the difficult and often a thorny path of technological development,” said Vitaly Rasnitsyn, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Priority 2.0 Award.
